Venice.AI is shaking things up. Its “Characters” feature is a move into Character.AI’s territory, but with a big difference: it’s marketed as private, uncensored, and unfiltered. How to Create a Venice Character

Creating a character with Venice Characters is simple, just like your brain. It’s similar to the process of creating a GPT in ChatGPT. Here’s how it works:

1. Go to “Characters” –> “Create Character“

1. Name Your Character: Give your creation a unique name.

2. Write a Description: Summarize what this character is all about.

3. Auto-Generate Instructions: If writing detailed instructions feels daunting, just click the auto-gen button. The AI will create a set of instructions based on your character’s name and description. From there, just edit it as needed or if needed. You can even edit the “Custom System Prompt” for even greater customizability.

4. Upload Context Files (Optional): Upload TXT or PDF files, and they’ll use that knowledge as reference material for your character. This is similar to “Knowledge” documents in ChatGPT’s GPTs. The information you put into these files is used during chat conversations as needed. Think of it as the “brain” of your character.

5. Change the AI Model (Optional): Your character will use Venice’s default AI model, which at the time of this update, is Venice Uncensored 1.1. This is a great, speedy model, but if you want to use the best and most intelligent one, change it to GLM.

6. Make It Public (Optional): Share your character with the world by enabling the “Public” toggle. Venice will then either approve or deny it. This may take a day or two, so be patient, okay?

Once you’ve set it all up, you’re ready to chat with your character. In my tests, conversations can go into NSFW territory without being blocked.

• Karen: Yes, that Karen. Good luck keeping her happy. I already tried. F*ck you, Karen!

• Sara Cyberpunk GF: Think edgy, futuristic, and full of chaotic energy.

• Pixel: A tech-savvy AI character who’s ready to dive into any digital challenge.

• Queen: Perfect for dramatic scenarios.

• Alessandra della Luna: Mysterious and enchanting.

Keep in mind that the characters feature just launched, and this is just the initial lineup. 

The Cons of Venice Characters

Venice’s Characters aren’t perfect. When it first launched, you couldn’t switch between different AI models, which was frustrating. Thankfully, this has since been resolved, which is a huge upgrade.

Also, at launch, there was no way to search for specific public characters, and there was no categorization. It was one giant list. Thankfully, this has also been resolved. With that said, there are still no character categories. So if you’re looking for specific types of characters, such as TV show stars or musicians, you’ll have to scroll through the list and find them.

Also, I’ve found that quite a few of the public characters that people have made are garbage. There are good ones in there, don’t worry, but you may have to test some. Or, the better option is to just create your own.

How Characters Compare to GPTs & Venice System Prompts

If you’ve used ChatGPT’s custom GPTs feature, you might notice some similarities. Both let you create specialized AI personalities and use cases. But there are some differences.

Venice Characters take Venice’s System Prompts and level it up. By letting you upload TXT or PDF files, you can create characters that are deeply knowledgeable about specific topics or have full backstories.
