Generating AI Dating Photos for Tinder (Crazy Realistic Shots!)

You want better photos for your dating profile, and you’re thinking AI dating photos might be the solution. You don’t particularly want to get dressed up, pay a photographer, and spend an afternoon at some dumb photoshoot pretending someone caught you naturally leaning against a wall with a shit-eating grin.

I get the appeal of skipping the photographer situation.

So I tested Aragon AI to see whether I could create dating photos that actually looked like me. Something I’d consider using on Tinder, not a suspiciously handsome distant relative who happens to have my haircut. To be 100% clear, I have not personally used any AI generated photos of myself on Tinder. I used this entire thing as an experiment to see what the tool could come up with.

Some of the results were great. There were duds here and there. One involved a penguin (we’ll get to that later).

Just one year ago, I would have cringed and laughed someone out of the room for thinking AI could ever produce realistic-looking photos of someone that they’d want to put on a Tinder profile. Well, the times they have changed. AI is currently absolutely capable of this, and it’s happening right now.

Here’s how you can create AI dating photos, what I’d pay for, and where I think the line is between improving your pictures and bullshitting your next date.

Let’s party.

What’s a Good App for Generating AI Dating Photos?

Aragon AI is an AI headshot and photo platform; it’s the one I used in this article, and it’s considered to be one of the best and most popular AI photo shoot tools available. It has over two million users. So that’s what I used.

You give it photos of yourself, then use its tools to generate new pictures with different outfits, settings, and poses.

For this article, the interesting part is AI Photo Studio, especially its Dating Photos pack.

You might already be asking, “Couldn’t I do this with ChatGPT?”

You can try. Upload your photos, write prompts, and work through the results. If you already have a tool that gives you photos you like, great.

What I really liked about Aragon was the convenience and time savings. It gives you ready-made styles and editing options with examples, so you don’t have to invent an entire photoshoot through trial and error.

You’re essentially paying for an easier, faster process that will most likely produce better results. Whether that’s worth it depends on how much you enjoy arguing with an image generator about your own disgusting face.

How to Create AI Dating Photos With Aragon AI

1. Start With Photos You Like

First, log into Aragon AI.

Then, follow Aragon’s upload instructions when creating your character. In this case, your “character” is you. Go to “Elements” –> “Characters” –> “Create Character”.

Use recent photos that show what you currently look like, with a variety of angles and framing. Your existing dating profile photos can be a useful starting point, provided they meet the upload requirements.

My advice: choose photos that look like you AND that you like.

Here are some of the photos that I used in my experiment:

Original reference photo 1 uploaded to Aragon AI
Original reference photo 2 uploaded to Aragon AI
Original reference photo 3 uploaded to Aragon AI

Side note: In case you’re wondering, I don’t have many pictures of myself, and I have no plans to change that. So I had to make due with what I have, so yes, two of these are selfies. Bite me.

Don’t feed it your least flattering pictures and expect it to understand that those were unfortunate accidents. Also, don’t upload heavily filtered pictures of someone you stopped looking like five years ago.

If the tool rejects an image, follow its instructions and replace it.

Also, there is a field to describe your character. So describe you height, weight, age, sex, skin tone, and any other important physical characteristics to help the AI create images of you.

2. Open the Dating Photos Pack

Here’s the route I used:

  1. Click AI Photo Studio in the left menu.
  2. Open Packs at the top.
  3. Select Dating Photos.
  4. Choose your character (which, I’m assuming, will be the character of you).
  5. Generate the photos.

During my test, the pack contained 10 styles and cost 60 credits.

The appeal of photo “Packs” in Aragon is that the styles are already selected. You don’t need to write ten prompts or decide what every background should look like.

Generate the set, then judge each photo individually. A pack labeled “Dating Photos” doesn’t automatically mean every result belongs on your profile.

Here’s a sample of the dating photos pack that it produced for me:

3. Explore Beyond the AI Dating Pack

The Dating Photos pack is a starting point. I found other options worth trying, too:

  • Glamour Photos Pack: This produced one of my favorite results, a photo of me in a suit.

  • Monochrome Photos Pack: Worth experimenting with if you want a cool black-and-white option.
Black and white AI-generated portrait
  • Styles: Browse the styles section for more looks beyond the preset packs. There is a ton to choose from here, and plenty of them could work well for Tinder.

There are plenty of different packs and styles. Too many to list here. There is even a “Modeling Photos” pack. This might sound tempting, but I was less sold on that direction for dating. Unless looking like you’re on a fashion shoot is normal for you, it can feel just a bit forced.

Pick photos that fit how you’d really present yourself. You don’t need six pictures that look like you’re applying to become the next James Bond or wealthy world traveler.

Here are some other cool photos it produced of me from that could work on a dating profile. It’s worth exploring the different photo packs and styles.

4. Edit the Good Photos from the Results

The AI suit photo looked good, but I wasn’t smiling. For the type of dating photo I wanted, that wasn’t going to work.

I opened Edit, selected the facial expression tool, and made myself smile. I liked the revised result much more.

I also used the AI expression tool to make myself cry. Maybe try to get your next Tinder date to pity swipe on you? (That’s a joke, by the way.)

That’s one of the useful parts of this platform. You can work on a promising image instead of throwing it away and starting over. You can’t do that so easily in real life.

I also found editing options for clothing, backgrounds, hairstyles, poses, and skin texture. Most were simple point-and-click tools. Here’s an example of changing my clothes:

Use them carefully. Fixing an expression is one thing. Editing your face until your own mother needs a second look is probably a sign to stop.

5. Keep Only the AI Photos That Look LIKE YOU

Not every photo Aragon generated looked like me. Plenty did, but there were definitely rejects.

Before using a result, look at your face, teeth, hair, body proportions, skin, hands, and the surrounding scene. Ask yourself whether this looks like a believable photo of you today.

Also, here’s a pro tip: the less skin you show, the easier it will be to look like you. So, long sleeves and jeans will be easier than a tank top and gym shorts.

My recommendation for your dating profile is to start with one or two AI photos alongside recent, real camera photos. That gives you room to improve the presentation while still showing the actual person someone will meet.

And if you’re unsure about the resemblance of your AI photos vs. what you really look like, ask someone who knows you and whom you trust to provide an honest opinion. “You look amazing” and “yes, that looks like you” aren’t the same answer. The first answer means that you just aren’t that attractive in real life. Sorry, bro.

The Elephant in the AI-Generated Room: Are AI Dating Photos Ethical?

My opinion is pretty simple: if the photo accurately represents how you look, I’m comfortable with it.

Better lighting, a nicer background, and a flattering outfit (as long as you can afford it yourself) don’t bother me. Inventing a much more attractive face or body type does.

There’s always a fine line. It’s normal to look around 10% better in your dating photos than in real life. Anything more than that is just setting yourself up for disappointment, wasted time, or potentially a two-minute date that ends in a fake “emergency.”

Would I care if a woman I matched with used AI photos? Personally, no, as long as she truly looked like the person in those photos when we met. Other people will feel differently, and they’re allowed to.

There’s also a second issue: what the picture says about your life.

Remember the penguin? One of my generated photos showed me with a penguin, as if I’d gone to Antarctica.

AI-generated portrait with a penguin

Fun image, and it does look like me. But it’s a terrible foundation for a fake travel story and would involve lying my ass off, which I’m not comfortable with.

A realistic face doesn’t make an invented trip real. The same goes for a yacht you don’t own, a hobby you don’t have, or a lifestyle you’re pretending to live.

If you want to include an obviously playful AI image, label it. Something like: “AI-generated photo. I liked it. It looks like me. Although I like penguins, I never met one.”

For realistic generated portraits, I think a brief disclosure is a reasonable way to avoid confusion, too. If someone asks, just tell them the truth.

Also, my opinion isn’t a dating app’s policy. Tinder’s community guidelines prohibit fake personas and false or misleading information. Check the rules of whichever app you’re using, and don’t treat a photo generator’s marketing as permission from Tinder. Don’t blame me if your photos don’t work out. With that said, when I checked, Tinder and Hinge did allow AI-generated photos, as long as they are representative of who you are and how you look.

Aragon AI Pricing – Subscription vs. Headshot Packages

This is the part that confused me: Aragon’s Photo Studio subscriptions and its dedicated headshot packages are separate purchases.

For the flow I tested, I used the Photo Studio subscription side. You don’t need to buy a separate professional headshot package just because you want to experiment with the Dating Photos pack.

As of the time of this writing, here are the monthly subscription prices:

PlanMonthly priceMonthly credits
Aragon Lite$15.00300
Aragon Pro$29.001,200
Aragon Ultimate$49.002,400
Aragon Creator$249.0012,000

For the amount of experimenting I wanted to do, I’d look at Pro first, then Ultimate if I needed more credits. If you only want a small test, compare Lite’s included features before spending more.

Creator is hard to justify for someone who simply wants better Tinder pictures. That’s a lot of monthly spending to get a photo of yourself drinking coffee.

The separate professional headshot packages currently list:

PackageOne-time priceHeadshots
Basic$35.0040
Standard$45.0060
Executive$75.00100

Those are more relevant if you’re specifically after a batch of professional headshots. Subscriptions also list headshot-style photo packs, but those aren’t the same purchase as the dedicated headshot package. The headshot package could work for you for your dating photos if you want the quickest possible option, but the app subscription actually offers more features and options from what I found.

Try My Special Aragon Discount Code

Use RUN15 at checkout for a 15% discount, and confirm that it applies to your selected purchase before paying.

If it applies to the listed monthly price, Aragon Pro would be just $24.65, and Aragon Ultimate would be $41.65.

During my test, I also saw offers for a three-day trial on monthly plans and a seven-day trial on annual plans. Check your checkout screen for current availability, the charge after the trial, and cancellation terms.

Don’t assume every promotion stacks. If an annual offer looks cheaper, check the total amount billed and whether RUN15 reduces it further.

What I Didn’t Like About Aragon AI

The upgrade pop-ups got annoying.

I was trying to use the tool, and it kept nudging me toward a different plan. I understand wanting to sell subscriptions. I’d also like to finish editing my penguin photo without another sales pitch.

Some offers I saw were tied to annual billing. A lower monthly equivalent can look enticing, but you’re committing to a longer purchase, obviously.

Another downside is that I found some things just don’t work correctly. For example, when I tried to select an Aragon photo from this grid for the AI Mirror Cleaner tool, it wouldn’t let me select any of them and forced me to upload a file instead. Bummer.

It also took me forever to realize the Photo Shoot feature was a totally separate package from the monthly subscription. That division felt overly complicated to me.

Is Aragon AI Worth It for Dating Photos?

I believe Aragon is worth it for your dating photos if you want better pictures and don’t want to shell out $200 or so for a photo shoot with a human. This is especially true if your current dating photos suck. Even if the AI photos from this tool are not real, the quality is.

I once paid a friend with a camera $40 to take photos of me. I didn’t like any of them. With Aragon, I liked many of the results, and I could even use AI to edit or modify them to make them even better.

That doesn’t mean AI will beat every photographer. It doesn’t mean a real photoshoot doesn’t guarantee you’ll love the photos, either.

If you’re considering spending a few hundred dollars on dating photos, a month of Aragon could be a much less expensive experiment. If you’re happy taking pictures with a friend or already getting good results from another tool, you may not need it.

What I’m reviewing here is the photo creation process and the results. I haven’t established that these photos will get me more matches or better dates because I didn’t personally use any of them. A picture can help present you well. It can’t hold a conversation for you or give you dating strategies. That’s where Player Bits comes in.

Can AI Also Help with Online Dating Messages and Dating Strategies to Get More Dates?

What a great question. The answer is yes. It definitely can… but not with Aragon AI.

I’d personally recommend using our own brainchild, Player Bits Pro. It doesn’t B.S. you, isn’t politically correct, is packed with a ton of custom dating knowledge, and most importantly, it’s very affordable.

It’s the upgraded version of the original GPT that got 50,000+ chats, so it’s been around the block a few times.

Wrapping It Up

I think AI will become a more common option for dating profile photos moving forward. The convenience is obvious. There is still a taboo around using AI for a lot of different things at the moment, however, and this is definitely one of them. That will loosen up over time. I just hope that people don’t abuse it and use AI to make themselves look like models when they are whales in real life.

The biggest tips that I will leave you with are these: Use good reference photos, reject anything that changes your appearance too much, and don’t invent a life to go with the AI backgrounds unless you’re an amazing liar (which I do not condone).

Also, be sure to get 15% off Aragon now with promo code RUN15 so you can get better dating photos without paying full price.
