How AI Helped Me Build a Profitable One-Person Business

I remember it like it was yesterday, and I will never forget it for as long as I live.

Every once in a while you see something that flips a switch in your brain.

You know the moment.

The one where you realize the world just changed… and most people have not figured it out yet.

For me, that moment happened in 2023.

And it only took 15 seconds.

Please understand one thing before we get started. This post is not me bragging. It is here to hopefully inspire you to build something great with AI. This opportunity may never come for you again.

The 15-Second Demo That Changed My Life Forever

I was working at a marketing agency when a coworker showed me a quick demo of a tool called ChatGPT.

It was nothing fancy. He just gave it a quick prompt to generate something for him at work.

ChatGPT generated a response.

And within about 15 seconds, I knew something big had just happened.

I had just witnessed a computer respond to a question in a better way than a human could. And it did it in under 15 seconds.

That’s when it hit me.

This was the beginning of a world that was about to change, and this tool was going to be the catalyst.

The kind of tectonic shift that happens may be once every few decades.

So I made a decision that day: I was going to do something with this. I was going to get on the right side of history. I was going to use this to my advantage, and nothing was going to stop me.

The Birth of Run The Prompts – An AI-First Business

A couple of months later, in March 2023, Run The Prompts was born.

I became obsessed, and I still am today.

Began experimenting with all of the best AI tools I could get my hands on, but mainly ChatGPT and Midjourney.

I was running prompts every single day… testing, breaking, and hacking things.

Trying weird ideas just to see what would happen, like jailbreaking ChatGPT and forcing it to make me a sandwich, or turning song lyrics into Art with Midjourney.

And over time, something interesting started to happen.

It became my thought partner, my trustworthy employee, my main efficiency tool, and the better half of my company.

Building My One-Person Company with AI’s Help

For the next three years, I built my entire content business with AI assisting me nearly every step of the way.

Not replacing me… helping me.

There’s a big difference.

Whenever I ran into a problem (especially recurring ones), I built an AI system to help solve it.

Below is a sample of use cases.

You can get a lot more use cases and examples of how to use AI for your business by checking out 12 Reasons Why AI is a Secret Weapon for Solopreneurs.

Blog & Newsletter Images

Instead of spending hours searching for stock photos or creating my own from scratch, I realized early that I could use Midjourney to generate custom images for my articles. I always had a vision for what kind of image I wanted in each post, so this was a perfect fit. Check out our vast collection of Midjourney Prompts to fire up your inspiration.

Copywriting Help

I trained a writing assistant bot that understands my tone and style.
It helps me write faster without sounding robotic, even if I sound that way in real life.

Although I can’t share my personal bot’s instructions with you, you can always use our free Digital Marketing Copywriter Pro bot, which has received over 200 ratings and over 5,000 chats. It’s not the same thing, but the quality is there.

Legal Questions

Instead of getting intimidated by complicated business legalities, I built a legal research bot that helps me analyze issues and gather sources about my specific situation. Of course, this is a tricky area, and I still have to fact-check and reach out to a real attorney as needed.

Technical Website Issues

When my website breaks, I don’t panic anymore.

I built a highly customized Web Developer bot trained on my website platform, plugins, custom CSS, and site structure.

It acts like a technical consultant that knows my site inside and out, and I’ve been able to blaze past website issues.

Lucky for you, you can learn how to create your own AI Web Developer for your website, too.

Business strategy

I even created multiple strategy bots that understand my company.

It knows my mission, revenue model, winning affiliates, marketing channels, and goals.

When I’m stuck, I run ideas through it.

Sometimes the suggestions are obvious, but other times they make me rethink my entire approach.

I got this suggestion by reading an amazing book called The AI-Driven Leader.

AI Helped Me Scale My Business 5X Faster

Let’s be clear about something.

AI does not run my business.

I run my business.

AI helps me think faster, test faster, and create faster.

That difference matters a lot.

But the impact has been massive.

With AI:

  • I produce 3–4x more content
  • I post more to social media
  • I test far more ideas
  • I strategize faster
  • I solve and debug website issues faster

Without AI?

I would probably be making less than half the income I’m making today with this company. Because I simply would not have had the time to produce the volume or quality of work required to grow it.

And the reason is simple… AI multiplies your productivity and gives you skills you never had before.

AI Isn’t Magic. You Still Have to Work.

Here’s the part people don’t like hearing. Cover your ears or run away screaming if you’re in this boat.

AI doesn’t magically build a business for you, regardless of what the “this changes everything” hype bros on YouTube tell you.

There’s no AI-powered button that says:

“Launch and manage a profitable company right now,” and I don’t think there ever will be.

I worked every day building Run The Prompts for three years, with the exception of major out-of-state vacations.

Sometimes it was an hour per day, and sometimes it was a lot more.

But I stayed consistent, and I didn’t give up, and I never will.

The difference is that AI made the work faster and a hell of a lot more fun.

When you’re passionate about what you’re building, the work stops feeling like work. And AI helps it all work out.

AI Isn’t Just for Business

Once I started building AI systems for my company, I realized something else.

You can do the same thing for your personal life, and the sky is the limit, just like with business.

So I did.

I built bots for things like a therapist-style reflection assistant, a personalized doctor, a Spanish tutor using voice mode, a relocation planning assistant, and so much more.

Each one was trained on my specific situation so that they could reference everything I needed.

This is where AI gets really interesting.

You can build custom intelligence for your life.

The Biggest Misconception About AI

A lot of people think AI is either:

  1. A toy/fad/BS
  2. A robot that will replace or kill everyone

Both views miss the point.

AI is something much simpler.

It’s a thinking amplifier and brain steroid.

It helps you:

  • Brainstorm
  • Research
  • Test ideas
  • Analyze problems
  • Move faster

If you already have drive and curiosity, AI multiplies it.

If you don’t… it won’t magically deposit money into your bank account.

AI Slop Factory Businesses Will Never Succeed Long-Term

via GIPHY

I consider AI slop to be any AI-generated content that has zero human thought, fact-checking, edits, or oversight. Content that is the result of a drunken button press.

AI slop content creators will all fail. It’s not a matter of if… It’s when.

There is a difference between building with AI, like what we do here at Run The Prompts, and pressing one button to create AI slop.

AI slop is polluting the internet. Nobody wants to see it, and everybody is sick of it. Anybody can do it, and that’s why it will never end with a successful business.

If you think you can create a profitable, sustainable AI slop factory, then you are only fooling yourself. No joke.

The Natural Next Phase: AI Agents Are Coming

The craziest part is that everything I just described is just the early stage. The internet as we know it began in 1996. I was there. That was 30 years ago. ChatGPT 3.5 launched in November 2022. That’s less than 3.5 years ago. It’s not too late to build something awesome with AI. Not even close.

The next wave is already starting, and that wave is AI agents.

These are autonomous AI systems that can run tasks in the background 24/7.

Think of them like digital workers.

Not perfect or fully autonomous ones, yet.

But capable of doing things like:

  • Researching topics
  • Monitoring websites
  • Automating workflows
  • Generating content drafts
  • Managing small processes

Tools like OpenClaw are starting to push this idea forward, and the Chinese government is funding one-person companies to help them launch OpenClaw-centered businesses.

The technology is still early, and so is OpenClaw.

But I’ve seen demonstrations online that had me drooling for my Mac Mini to arrive.

Businesses that adopt early will have an enormous advantage.

One of those businesses will be Run The Prompts.

The next generation of this business will be agentic. And I’ve never been more excited in my life.

Wrapping It Up

Three years ago, I watched a 15-second ChatGPT demo.

Those 15 seconds completely changed the direction of my life, gave me an incredible new hobby, helped me create a business based on said hobby, and put money in the bank.

Now I want to hear from you.

Has AI changed your life yet?
Or are you still on the sidelines watching? Or worse, hiding under your desk, trembling in fear, and hoping not to get replaced by a robot?

Drop a comment below and tell me how you’re using AI.

Until next time, remember to run the prompts and prompt the planet.
