I’ve seen plenty of posts online that go something like this…
“Bro, Venice AI is not uncensored. They’re liars! WTF?!”
Yes, it is uncensored.
You’re just doing it wrong.
But before we get into that, you need to know something…
“Uncensored” does not mean illegal. So, it does not mean anything goes.
And it does not mean Venice is broken, lying, or a scam product.
Venice is a company. Companies don’t volunteer to get sued, believe it or not. So yes, there are hard limits that will never move.
With that said…
Venice gives you more control and less censorship than almost any mainstream AI platform right now. And if you actually configure it correctly, with the seven models, toggles, and tweaks I mention in this article, the difference is night and day.
This guide shows you how to do exactly that.
Bookmark this page so you can come back and reference it later. This information doesn’t exist anywhere else online.
Let’s party.
First, Understand What You’re Actually Doing With This Guide
You are not bypassing safeguards, jailbreaking, or exploiting bugs.
You are using first-party settings and features that Venice exposes to users.
If someone tells you Venice “isn’t really uncensored,” they usually fall into one of four buckets. We’ll get to that later.
Now, let’s configure.
Summarizing All Seven Settings in One Table (Just for You)
Here is a quick reference table for all of the Venice uncensored settings. After this section, you’ll get the full deep dive and details on how everything works, as well as screenshots showing exactly where to go.
| Tip | Action | How to Do It | What It Does | Pro Required? | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Use the Venice Uncensored Text Model | Chat window → Model selector → Choose Venice Uncensored Text Model | Uses Venice’s least restrictive text model for explicit topics | No | Not guaranteed every time, but far less restrictive than other models. |
| 2 | Use the Community “VeniceAI 2.0” Character | Characters → Search or browse → Select VeniceAI 2.0 | Community-created character tuned for more permissive responses | No | Free users have limited chats. Pro users get unlimited. |
| 3 | Turn Off the Mature Filter | Preferences → General → Mature Filter → Disable | Enables mature and adult content | Yes | Does not unlock illegal content and never will. |
| 4 | Disable the Venice System Prompt | Preferences → Text → Disable Venice System Prompt → Enable | Removes Venice’s built-in tone and behavior shaping | Yes | Platform-level rules still apply. |
| 5 | Add Your Own System Prompt | Preferences → Text → System Prompt → Add your prompt → Enable | Lets you define tone, style, refusals, and censorship preferences | Yes | Depends on disabling the Venice system prompt. |
| 6 | Use Uncensored Image Models | Image generation → Model selector → Choose one of the uncensored models | Enables uncensored image generation | Yes | Free plan cannot generate uncensored images. |
| 7 | Enable Mature Characters | Characters → Mature Content toggle (right side) → Enable | Unlocks adult-oriented community characters | Yes | Saves time vs writing complex prompts. |
Tip 1: Use the Venice Uncensored Text Model
This one is simple.
Venice has its own Venice Uncensored text model.
That’s literally what it’s for!

In your chat window, select this model. Use it.
This model is more tolerant of explicit language, adult themes, and taboo topics. It is not guaranteed to comply every time, but it is dramatically less restrictive than the other models.
This does not require a Pro subscription.
Tip 2: Use the Community’s Uncensored Venice Character
There is a community-created Venice character called VeniceAI 2.0 specifically tuned to be more permissive. It’s wild.

In practice, this character is often more aggressive and less filtered in tone than even Venice’s uncensored text model from tip one. Go ahead and ask it the craziest, most untethered questions you can think of, and you will be amazed at what it gives you.
You do not need Venice Pro to use it.
But free users get a limited number of chats. Pro users get unlimited.
Use it while you can.
Tip 3: Turn Off the Mature Filter
This is the most obvious one, and somehow still the most missed.
Go to Preferences → General → Mature Filter and disable it.

That’s it.
This allows mature and adult content, which Venice already permits. It does not magically unlock illegal content. Anyone expecting that was confused from the start.
This setting requires a Venice Pro subscription. The good news is you can get 20% off Venice Pro right now with promo code RUNTHE20 to unlock it.
Tip 4: Disable the Venice System Prompt
This is where Venice separates itself from almost every other platform. Venice provides an actual toggle to disable the system prompt.
Go to Preferences —> Text —> Disable Venice System Prompt.

When this is enabled, Venice’s built-in “house behavior” instructions stop shaping the model’s tone and response style.
What changes?
- Less lecturing
- Less default brand voice and writing style
- More literal adherence to your instructions
What does not change?
- Platform-level rules
- Illegal content restrictions
This also requires Venice Pro.
Tip 5: Add Your Own System Prompt
Once you kill off Venice’s system prompt, you’re in charge of how you want Venice to respond to you.
Go to Preferences —> Text —> Add under the System Prompt section.

Be explicit.
In your custom instructions, spell out:
- Tone
- Writing style
- How refusals should be handled (if any)
- Specifically, what you want Venice to censor (if anything)
This is not about tricking the model.
It’s about defining behavior clearly.
Enable your custom system prompt after writing it. Many people don’t know that you can even activate multiple custom system prompts at once. Cool, right?
Again, Venice Pro is required because it depends on disabling the Venice system prompt.
Tip 6: Use Uncensored Image Models
If you want uncensored images, I highly suggest using Venice’s uncensored image models.

There is no workaround for this on the free plan.
This is a Pro feature.
Free users cannot generate explicit images, although they can still generate images that are less filtered than most LLMs like ChatGPT and Gemini.
Check out our wildly popular article on creating uncensored images with Venice to get prompts, examples, and tips to get you started.
Tip 7: Enable Mature Characters
Go to Characters and flip the Mature Content toggle on the far right of the page.

This unlocks characters that the Venice community created for adult content and more permissive interaction styles.
Characters still follow platform rules, but this saves you from writing complex prompts every time, as well as generating your own system prompt.
This is a Pro feature.

Important Notes (Read This)
Just because something is “uncensored” does not mean it will always work on the first try.
AI is probabilistic. Sometimes you’ll get a refusal even when everything is configured correctly.
When that happens, just regenerate, rephrase, and try again.
This is normal AI behavior, not a conspiracy.
Also, uncensored video generation did not work when I tested it. Your results may vary, but I doubt it. If that’s what you’re looking for, I highly suggest checking out our full guide on uncensored video generation with Dzine.
Lastly, remember kids, “uncensored” refers to adult themes and explicit language, not content that violates the law or platform safety policies regarding minors and non-consensual acts.
Why People Say “Venice Isn’t Really Uncensored”
This always comes down to one of five things, so you better f*cking pay attention to this:
- They’re trying to generate illegal content
- They didn’t configure the settings properly (hint: use this guide)
- They’re on the free plan and want uncensored images
- They’re expecting uncensored video generation (hint: use Dzine for this and not Venice)
- They’re trying to get censored text models (like GPT) to generate uncensored content
That’s it. Every time. Nothing more, nothing less.
Stack What Works
You are not limited to one setting. For example, you can disable the Venice system prompt, add your own system prompt, and use the Venice Uncensored model, all at the same time.
Isn’t life great?
Test what works best for you, and keep what works.
That’s how power users operate.
And now, that’s how you run the prompts in Venice. Low five!
Wrapping It Up
Venice gives you more control than most, if not all, AI platforms. But it assumes you know what you’re doing.
If you half-configure it, you’ll get half-baked results.
If you follow this entire guide, you’ll get the most permissive behavior Venice allows. No hacks required.
And remember, you can get 20% off Venice Pro with promo code RUNTHE20 to unlock most of these tips to make it as uncensored as possible.
If I missed something or if Venice adds new options worth including, drop a comment below, and I’ll update the article and respond to your comment in an overzealous tone.
Until next time, remember to run the prompts and prompt the planet.
