8 Best Spotify AI Playlist Prompts (Tested and Loved!)

Spotify has a relatively new feature called Prompted Playlists, and somehow, nobody I know is talking about it.

I have already made a ton of playlists with it, so I’m sharing the absolute best AI playlist prompts with you so that you can join the party, too. At this point, I can’t imagine Spotify without it. It has quickly become my favorite Spotify feature, and it’s worth the price of admission.

Prompted Playlists let you describe the playlist you want using natural language, and then the magic AI music machine generates it for you.

It’s the type of thing a music fan could only dream about just a decade ago.

Let’s party.

The Quick Hit List: What You Need to Know About Prompted Playlists

The feature is currently in beta for Spotify Premium (paid) users and is only available in select countries and accounts. Since it is still in beta, it may not be perfect yet, but I have had a ton of great success with it.

It is also much better than Spotify’s normal AI mixes, which somehow manage to “mix” your music by serving you the same 10 songs you already hear constantly. Thanks for nothing, Spotify. I almost forgot those songs existed during the six minutes since you last played them.

You can create a lot of prompted playlists, although probably not an unlimited number within a short period. Spotify should notify you inside the app if you hit your current limit, but so far, I never have.

As always, edit these Spotify AI playlist prompts however you want. They work great out of the box, but changing the genres, moods, artists, or listening limits will make them more specific to you.

Playlist Prompt 1: Work Out Mix

This prompt finds energetic workout music without filling the playlist with songs you have already beaten to death.

Energetic, intense songs for working out based on the artists, genres, and music I already like. Don’t include songs that I’ve heard over 15 times, though.

Playlist Prompt 2: Angry Music

Sometimes you need relaxing music. Other times, you need music when you feel like punching someone in the throat. That’s what this one is for.

Aggressive, intense songs for when I am angry and need to burn off energy, based on my music taste. Don’t include songs that I’ve heard over 15 times, though.

Playlist Prompt 3: Get in the Zone for Work or School

Great for working, studying, designing, coding, or pretending to work while staring at the same browser tab for 45 minutes. I personally use this one the most out of all of these prompts.

Music that is good for working and getting "in the zone." It should be electronic music with a good beat. Vocals are okay but generally avoid vocals. Completely avoid songs that I have already heard. It's okay to include artists that I've already listened to, though, just not the same songs that I have heard before.

Playlist Prompt 4: Deep Cuts from Liked Artists

Spotify already knows which artists you like. This prompt makes it dig deeper than their obvious hits. It’s great for finding songs that you may have otherwise never found yourself. Let the robot find them.

Lesser-known songs (deep cuts) from artists that I like. Do not include hits. Do not include songs that I’ve heard before. Ensure the songs are great songs that other people like and listen to but never became mainstream, popular songs, for whatever reason.

Playlist Prompt 5: Night Walker

This one creates a darker, slower playlist for walking, driving, working slowly, or sitting all alone.

Slower, darker, and more atmospheric songs for late-night listening based on my music taste. Avoid cheerful pop and songs I already hear constantly.

Playlist Prompt 6: Fresh Artist Finder

Use this when you want new artists that resembles the older bands and artists you already like. I’ve already found this one to be really useful, too.

Newer songs from newer Artists that sound similar to older bands/artists that I like. Don’t include any songs or artists that I have heard before.

Playlist Prompt 7: Taste Expander

This prompt pushes your music taste outward without suddenly deciding that you need to listen to country, if, of course, you don’t like country.

Songs that expand my music taste without becoming random. Keep most selections close to my established preferences while introducing some related genres and unexpected artists.

Playlist Prompt 8: Max Random Mix

This is my “throw everything into the blender” playlist. Different genres, tempos, decades, and artists, but still based on music Spotify believes I will enjoy. It’s the equivalent of a giant “Mix Everything” button in Spotify, and I’m not sure why they still haven’t added that as a feature. This prompt solves that issue.

Mix everything. Include all kinds of different genres, artists, songs, tempos, songs from past playlists, songs I’ve liked, etc. The only rule is it needs to be music that I will like, based on my listening taste. It should be the equivalent of me pressing a button in my Spotify account that says, "Mix Everything." Be sure to actually include a mix, though. Don't just include songs that I like without mixing and matching together a bunch of different styles, tempos, artists, etc.

Wrapping It Up: Not Spotify Wrapped

Spotify Prompted Playlists allow you to get far more creative than simply asking for workout songs or relaxing music.

You can request deep cuts, undiscovered artists, songs you have never played, specific moods, unusual genre combinations, or almost anything else your strange brain can come up with.

These are the best Spotify AI playlist prompts I have personally tested so far, and the results have been surprisingly great.
