You know how a couple of years ago, I made a full-blown tutorial on using Midjourney for your LinkedIn profile picture? Well, you probably don’t, even though it’s one of the top Run The Prompts posts ever. But if you do, it worked great. However, let’s be honest… It was complicated. ChatGPT’s new image generation feature changes all that forever.
ChatGPT can handle ultra-realistic LinkedIn profile pictures in just a single prompt, and a lot of people don’t know that. You don’t have to become a Photoshop or Midjourney wizard overnight. It’s as simple as one prompt, with potentially a few revisions, and the next thing you know, you’re looking sharp on LinkedIn in a suit that costs more than your yearly rent.
Tips for Generating The Best Picture
Here’s the quick rundown:
- Use a high-quality photo: I’m talking crystal clear, straight-on shots. No hats, sunglasses, or artsy angles. The AI needs to see your full face. Both ears, both eyes, hell, even throw in a bit of your shoulders. More data = better results.
- Stick with the expensive suit: In my favorite prompt, ChatGPT literally gives you an extremely expensive black suit. Tempting to mess with, but trust me, don’t. It makes you look way more professional and cool than the suit from Walmart that you have hiding in your closet.
- Experiment just a bit: Feel free to tweak it. Change the suit, background, and lighting. With a little play, you might get something even better.
The ChatGPT LinkedIn Profile Picture Prompt
Copy/Paste Into ChatGPT
Using the attached image as an exact reference, generate a high-resolution professional headshot that preserves 100% of my facial features, including face shape, hair, skin, tone, and expression. Apply studio-quality lighting and a soft, neutral background, and adjust my attire to an extremely expensive black suit. Ensure the image exudes confidence and approachability for a LinkedIn profile.
Check out the example below. Pretty impressive, right? Kudos to Superhuman for the prompt inspiration.
By the way, I found this random selfie picture on a Google Images search. If you’re reading this, and this is a picture of you, simply contact me, and I’ll take it down. I just wanted an example selfie to use. The image on the right does not exist as an actual LinkedIn profile photo. It’s also an example.

Now, let’s dial things back a few years and imagine what this baby’s LinkedIn profile picture might look like…

But What About LinkedIn’s Rules?
Some of you might wonder: Is using an AI-generated photo against LinkedIn’s rules? Honestly, I haven’t got a clue. I’m not the LinkedIn police. If you decide to break their rules, that’s your fault, not mine.
And if you’re worried someone might recognize your photo as AI-generated, relax. As long as it resembles you enough, nobody’s going to waste their day scrutinizing every pixel of a small picture.
LinkedIn isn’t Tinder. It’s LinkedIn. Most connections don’t even know what you currently look like, and some haven’t seen you since high school, and they probably don’t want to. Bottom line? Nobody cares that much. So why not look your absolute best for free with three minutes of work?
BONUS: Another Option? Use Midjourney’s Image Editor Instead
Already have an image of yourself that you want to use, but you aren’t wearing the proper clothes? Already have a Midjourney subscription? Well, you’re in luck.
Here’s a YouTube video I made where I show you exactly how I swapped my civilian street clothes for something much more expensive.
Wrapping It Up
Give this ChatGPT LinkedIn profile picture prompt a shot, and let me know in the comments if it made you look better than real life (which probably isn’t tough). Do you have a better prompt or method? I’d love to hear it.
Until next time, remember to run the prompts and prompt the planet.
