Character.AI is an awesome site, and a lot of fun, but NSFW is one thing it’s not. A lot of people wonder if there are any alternatives out there that give them an unfiltered and uncensored experience. An AI that lets them say what they want. Well, Venice just released it.
Venice.AI is here to shake things up. With the launch of its new “Characters” feature, Venice is making a bold move into Character.AI’s territory, but with a big difference: it’s private, uncensored, and unfiltered. That’s right. If you’ve been frustrated with Character.AI’s filters or lack of privacy, Venice Characters might just be the NSFW Character.AI alternative you’ve been staying awake at night dreaming of.
Let’s sink into the details of how Characters works, how it stacks up against GPTs and Venice’s System Prompts, and why you might want to give it a try (hint: promo code included!).

What Are Venice Characters?
At its core, Venice Characters is Venice.AI’s take on creating AI personalities. Think Character.AI but with fewer rules, a six-pack of beer, and a whole lot more freedom. These AI characters aren’t just chatbots; they’re customizable creations with unique personalities and backstories. So, if you want a quirky companion, a helpful marketing assistant, or something a bit more… creative, Venice Characters can do it.
Here’s what makes it stand out:
• Private and Uncensored/Unfiltered: Your characters and chats are saved in your browser, not on Venice servers. Translation? You don’t have to worry about Big Brother (or big AI) looking over your shoulder. Give them the middle finger they deserve and remove the filters.
• Customizable: Create characters in under a minute. Add backstory context with TXT or PDF files for a rich, personalized experience.
• Unfiltered: No speech restrictions, including filters and NSFW content. Your imagination sets the limits – not big tech.
If you’re tired of the filters and limitations of other platforms like Character.AI, Venice Characters is your new little playground.
The Venice.AI Price Tag (and a Discount!)
There is a free version of Venice (you can even use it without an account), but Venice Characters is currently available to Venice Pro users.
While the Pro subscription isn’t free, since you run the prompts with us, you can grab 20% off now with promo code RUN20. If you’ve been on the fence about upgrading, this might be the kick in the ass you need.
With the discount, if you subscribe to the yearly plan, you only pay $3.27 per month. Compare that to ChatGPT Pro’s $20/month, and you’ll be drowning in reasons to buy it and skip that extra gallon of gas on your way to Dairy Queen.
My contact at Venice said the price will increase soon, so you won’t want to miss this.
How to Create a Venice Character
Creating a character with Venice Characters is simple; just like your brain. It’s similar to the process of creating a GPT in ChatGPT. Here’s how it works:
1. Go to “Characters” –> “Create Character“
1. Name Your Character: Give your creation a unique name.
2. Write a Description: Summarize what this character is all about.
3. Auto-Generate Instructions: If writing detailed instructions feels daunting, just click the auto-gen button. The AI will create a set of instructions based on your character’s name and description. From there, just edit it as needed or if needed.
4. Upload Context Files (Optional): Upload TXT or PDF files, and they’ll use that knowledge as reference material. This is similar to “Knowledge” documents in ChatGPT’s GPTs.
Once you’ve set it all up, you’re ready to chat with your character, even if your chat goes into NSFW territory. Want to tweak something? No problem—it’s all editable.
Characters You’ll Get Right Out of the Gate
When you first jump into Venice Characters, you’ll find a few pre-loaded options to get you started:
• Karen: Yes, that Karen. Good luck keeping her happy. I already tried. F*ck you, Karen!
• Saylor Twift: Not to be confused with Taylor Swift, this character is completely different, okay?
• Graybeard Hafstadt: Your classic wise old wizard.
• Sara Cyberpunk GF: Think edgy, futuristic, and full of chaotic energy.
• Pixel: A tech-savvy AI character who’s ready to dive into any digital challenge.
• Queen: Perfect for dramatic scenarios.
• Alessandra della Luna: Mysterious and enchanting.
Keep in mind that the characters feature just launched, and this is just the initial lineup.
The Cons of Venice Characters
Venice’s Characters aren’t perfect. Right now, you can’t switch between different AI models, which can be frustrating if you’re looking for a specific conversational style or upgrade in performance. Venice will likely roll this out in the future, and it’ll be a serious and needed upgrade.
Also, I tried creating highly recognizable and unique-sounding people like Donald Trump, and, well… it didn’t turn out great. I am convinced that being able to change the model to the best model (Llama 3.1 405B) would instantly fix that issue.
How Characters Compare to GPTs & Venice System Prompts
If you’ve used ChatGPT’s custom GPTs feature, you might notice some similarities. Both let you create specialized AI personalities and use cases. But there are some differences.
Venice Characters take Venice’s System Prompts and level it up. By letting you upload TXT or PDF files, you can create characters that are deeply knowledgeable about specific topics or have full backstories.
When you compare Venice Characters to GPTs, there are even more differences. GPTs can be shared and hosted on the GPT Store. Also, they’re using a more powerful model of GPT-4o. As for Characters, it’s uncensored and private, which GPTs certainly are not.
Wrapping It Up: Is This a Good Alternative to Character.AI?
Yes, it’s already a nice NSFW alternative to Character.AI. Venice Characters is one of the coolest new features from Venice.AI so far. It takes the best parts of Character.AI and ChatGPT, removes the filters so that it can also be NSFW, and hands you the key.
Sure, there’s room for improvement, especially when it comes to switching between AI models. But even in its current form, it’s a legit AI tool to have at your disposal.
Don’t forget to use promo code “RUN20” to get 20% off Venice today. Leave a comment below to tell us what you think of this new feature. Until next time, run the prompts and prompt the planet!
