Use ChatGPT to Automatically Find Working Promo Codes – Save Big!

We’ve all been there. You’re about to check out online, cart full of goodies, when that little box taunts you: Enter promo code. You stare at it. It stares back.

So, what do most of us do? Open a new tab, type in “[store name] promo code,” and hope Google blesses us with something better than 10% off last year.

But there’s a better way.

I tested this little trick with ChatGPT in Agent Mode, and let me tell you…it works.

Word of warning: as of September 2025, it is not possible to do this with the free version of ChatGPT. Agent Mode requires a paid subscription to ChatGPT.

ChatGPT’s Agent Mode Makes This Possible

Here’s the deal. You can’t just run this in the standard version of ChatGPT. You need Agent Mode. Why? Because it doesn’t just “find” codes. It actually tests them on a remote computer. Yep, Agent Mode will add something to its cart, paste in the code, and see if it works. Like a promo code butler or something.

Are you stuck with the free version of ChatGPT? Thinking about trying it in ChatGPT Thinking Mode instead? Sure, you can. But don’t expect it to work as well. It won’t be able to add anything to a cart to literally test the codes because it won’t have a remote computer to work with. Stick to Agent Mode unless you’re in the mood to gamble.

The ChatGPT Promo Code Finder Prompt

Replace the bracketed part with whatever site you’re shopping on. Easy. Also, important FYI: this might take some time. Plan ahead. It could take anywhere from five minutes to an hour, and there’s no way to know until you test. Just go do something else while you wait, okay?

Reality Check: Can You Find a Discount for Anything?

Before you start daydreaming about free iPhones, let’s be clear. This only works if public codes actually exist. ChatGPT isn’t conjuring magic discounts from thin air. If the store doesn’t have anything floating around online, you’ll get nothing. I can’t even believe I have to mention this, but there are plenty of dummies out there.

But when does it work? Oh man, it works.

I tested it on CBDistillery.com and found a functional 30% off code (see below). And it wasn’t on the first page of Google results. That’s the kind of deal you’d probably never find with a quick Google searche.

Pro Tips Before You Try to Get a Code

  • Do it before checkout. Don’t wait until the last second, because you’ll get impatient.
  • Patience required. This isn’t instant.
  • Not every site works. Think of it like fishing: some days you catch dinner, some days you just get sunburned.
  • Try turning it into an automated task. If you were paying attention in that screenshot (you weren’t), you’d see that ChatGPT automatically recommended that I create a ChatGPT scheduled task to automatically go out and find promo codes on a set schedule. Try that, too.

Wrapping It Up

So yeah, ChatGPT Agent Mode can actually save you money if you give it time to work. That $20/month just may pay for itself if you spend a lot of time shopping online and don’t like hunting for codes (but who does?).
