Let ChatGPT prompts take you to a new place for GDN and YouTube ads management.

This might be the first piece of content on the internet about using ChatGPT for the Google Display Network and YouTube ads. I couldn’t find anything anywhere else. What an honor to be first…as far as I know.

Ads on the Google Display Network and YouTube can be powerful for branding. Don’t overlook them. A lot of attention gets focused on Google paid search ads, and rightfully so, but GDN and YouTube are also a force to be reckoned with.

For GDN and YouTube, ChatGPT helps more with the creative side of things. When using ChatGPT for paid search, it’s more about data, keywords, and analysis.

Without further ado, let’s jump in.

Prompt #1: GDN & YouTube – Find Audiences to Target

(Copy/Paste)
Act as a Google Ads Specialist with 20 years of experience. My client sells something called the “Pizza Pocket”. It’s a necklace that people can wear that holds a slice of pizza, which is perfect for people who always want pizza nearby. Generate a list of audiences to use for targeting (in-market, affinity, etc.) for the Google Display Network ads and/or YouTube ads.

Knowing your target audience is crucial for the success of your campaigns.

By generating a list of audiences to use for targeting in GDN and/or YouTube ads, you can jump-start your journey in selecting the best audiences for your campaign.

Like most things with ChatGPT, this works best as a starting point and an easy way to get cool ideas that you otherwise may not have thought of. For example, I would have never thought to target gamers or college students with the Pizza Pocket. I would have stayed literal and targeted people who search for pizza on Google.

This GDN/YouTube prompt is important because reaching the right audiences can ultimately lead to higher conversions and a better return on investment (ROI).

Prompt #2: GDN & YouTube – Create an A/B Testing Strategy

(Copy/Paste)
Act as a Google Ads Specialist with 20 years of experience. Write a full A/B testing plan to help me determine which bid strategy works best for my campaigns. Most of my campaigns are using manual bidding. I have 100 campaigns. I am interested in testing automated bidding and determining which automated bidding strategy works best. In the plan, describe how long I should run each test and what I should look for.

If you don’t have much experience with A/B testing in Google Ads, then you should start now. Let ChatGPT help you get your wheels spinning.

A/B testing can mean the difference between a good campaign and a stellar one, between negative ROI and positive ROI.

Remember this acronym: ABT, which stands for “Always Be Testing.”

The testing plan provided by ChatGPT is fairly basic but would still work well as an outline. Ask it questions about any of the points or information it gives you.

Also, keep in mind that this GDN/YouTube prompt works for paid search as well.

Prompt #3: Google Display Network – Find Website Placements Relevant to Your Audience to Target

(Copy/Paste)
Act as a Google Ads Specialist with 20 years of experience. My client sells products that cater to men going through a midlife crisis. Give me a list of relevant and popular websites on the Google Display Network for placements for my specific audience/demographic.

A lot of success on the Google Display Network boils down to where you show your ads. If you show them on garbage apps and spammy websites, you will not get the results you want.

By leveraging specific websites that are relevant to your target audience, you can improve the chances of converting website visitors into customers.

In the screenshot, you can see that pretty much all of the suggested websites are ideal for men going through a midlife crisis. ChatGPT did a great job. However, it picked the low-hanging fruit. Why? Because I asked it to only select popular websites. If you’d like to target smaller sites like Arcade 1up, then change the prompt to include what you are trying to find.

Prompt #4: Google Display Network – Generate Creative Banner Ad Design Ideas

(Copy/Paste)
Act as a Google Ads Specialist with 20 years of experience. My client sells something called the “Pizza Pocket”. It’s a necklace that people can wear that holds a slice of pizza, which is perfect for people who always want pizza nearby. By using ChatGPT to generate creative ideas for new GDN banner ads, you can more easily think of ideas for eye-catching and compelling visuals that will draw in potential customers.

This prompt is helpful for overcoming creative block, brainstorming, or simply alleviating boredom by using it for products like the Pizza Pocket.

Prompt #5: YouTube Ads – Generate Creative YouTube Video Ad Ideas

(Copy/Paste)
Act as a Google Ads Specialist with 20 years of experience. My client sells a product called “They’re Tied”. It’s a device that can convert any pair of shoes into shoes that magically tie themselves. Generate 10 creative YouTube video ad ideas for a new YouTube campaign.

You want to make a YouTube ad but you don’t know what to do. Maybe you’ve never filmed one before or maybe you’re an entry-level employee. Let ChatGPT help you.

I provided the dumbest example I could think of, and some of the video ideas it generated are actually great.

Prompt #6: YouTube Ads – Create a List of Competitor YouTube Channels to Target

(Copy/Paste)
Act as a Google Ads Specialist with 20 years of experience. My client sells and manufacturers Natural Light beer. Generate a list of YouTube channels, along with their URLs, for my company’s competitors.

By peeking at content from the YouTube channels of your competitors, you can gain insights into the types of content that resonates with your target audience. You can then create more content that is similar to that.

Also, one popular YouTube ads targeting strategy is to show your ads on your competitors’ channels. Be careful though. If they get a whiff of this, it’s possible they will do the same to you. It could be high risk and high reward.

Prompt #7: YouTube Ads – Find YouTube Channels Relevant to Your Audience to Target

(Copy/Paste)
Act as a Google Ads Specialist with 20 years of experience. My client is an experienced photographer in Phoenix, AZ. He would like to run YouTube ads to generate awareness for his website: clickwithsal.com. Give me a list of relevant and popular YouTube channels for targeting and include the channel URLs.
