Midjourney’s Awesome New Video Generator (V1) Just Pressed “Play!”

On June 18, 2025, the Midjourney crew added what we’ve all been waiting for: Midjourney video generation. This is the most significant Midjourney change since we started running the prompts in March 2023.

A bold Animate button now appears in every user’s gallery, on top of several other fresh video options that I’ll cover in this article. Tap the Animate button, and your static images jump into a new dimension as animated video clips.

This significant upgrade is housed within the brand new V1 Midjourney Video model, marking Midjourney’s first leap into video generation after sticking to images for years. Suddenly, your still renders feel more like opening scenes than finished pieces.

Your 21-Second Midjourney V1 Video Guide

• Length – Midjourney serves a default 5-second clip. Want longer? Use one of the Extend buttons to build up your video in 4-second increments, topping out at a cool 21 seconds. Just long enough for the average person’s attention span.
• Motion Styles – Choose Low-motion for subtle shifts or High-motion for energetic visuals. Pick carefully, depending on your artistic intention.
• Raw Mode – For more precise motion control of your Midjourney videos, using the –raw parameter in your video prompts can be helpful. This feature works similarly to Raw Mode for images.
• Ready-to-Go Output – Videos come out as 24 fps, 720p MP4 files. Don’t worry, higher-res options are coming soon. For now, we get a potato setting, but the videos still look shockingly great.

How to Start Generating Videos Quickly

1. Generate or select an existing image.
2. Click the Animate icon.
3. Wait around 30 seconds.
4. Assess whether your clip length is sufficient.
5. Hit Extend as needed (up to four times).

Minimal effort, maximum results. Anyone can manage it.

Video Costs (the Necessary Evil)

The most important thing you need to know is this: videos cost 8x more GPU time compared to regular Midjourney images (8 minutes vs. 1 minute). Use it wisely.

Although video generation is awesome, expect your minutes to rack up. Feedback from users may lead to the introduction of a more wallet-friendly mode soon.

• Simplify your prompts. Midjourney understands the initial frame well enough, so you don’t need to describe it all over again.
• Pair Low-motion for calm aesthetics and smooth looping visuals.
• For higher quality, manually upscale the videos externally and recompile them using video editing software.
• If you want to share your video creation on social media, be sure to click the phone icon for “Download Video for Social Media”. This optimizes the quality for social platforms.
• Be wary of the number of credits you have left to use. Click on your username on Midjourney.com at the bottom left, go to “Manage Subscription,” and look at your “Remaining Fast Hours.”
