ChatGPT just got a serious upgrade: Deep Research. ChatGPT Deep Research is here, and if you haven’t heard about it yet, get ready to have your mind blown all over again with these prompts and information.
Deep Research is a full-on research powerhouse that can generate detailed reports by scouring the web in ways that make Google search look like a piddly toddler flipping through a picture book.
The Deep Research Hype is Real
Remember when ChatGPT-3.5 launched in November 2022, and people lost their minds? I’m not going to say this is the same as that, but for me, it’s around 70% of the way there. ChatGPT Deep Research is about to change the game for researchers, consultants, analysts, and anyone who has ever wasted hours or days trying to piece together information from multiple sources around the internet.
Here’s the deal: This tool can gather, analyze, and summarize data from an insane number of sources in as little as a few minutes. What would take a human researcher hours—if not days—can now be done in 5-30 minutes with a prompt.
Imagine having a research assistant who works at the speed of light and doesn’t need cigarette or cocaine breaks. It’s kind of like that. Our CTO, Rick Smith? Well, yeah… he needs them.

Who Should Be Paying Attention?
Deep Research is going to put some analysts and consultants out of a job, make others a lot better at what they do, and create brand-new opportunities for those who know how to use it. Whether you’re a student needing a research paper, a journalist fact-checking a story, or a finance geek analyzing the next big stock pick, this tool is about to change the way you work.
Here are some great Deep Research prompt and use case ideas:
- Product Research: Need to justify your next dumb purchase? Let Deep Research do the heavy lifting. Then, when your wife divorces you over that boat purchase, you can blame ChatGPT. That way, she will forgive you.
- Vacation Planning: Find the best destinations, hotel picks, restaurants, and travel hacks in minutes. Bonus: Once you get that report, load it into a ChatGPT Folder for your trip.
- Legal Research: Just double-check the facts before you take anything to court. Please.
- Investment & Financial Analysis: Get insights that would normally take hours of reading and thinking.
- Buying a Car: Compare models, reviews, and market trends in no time.
- Finding a New Place to Live: Looking to relocate to somewhere that smells better? Deep Research to the rescue. Just give it all the specifics you’re looking for.
If it involves research, Deep Research can do it faster, better, and with less effort from you. From there, you just have to read and edit it as needed.
How to Use ChatGPT Deep Research

- Click the telescope icon in the ChatGPT chat bar.
- Select your model. Use the best reasoning model available—o3-mini or o3-mini-high are great choices for now.
- Enter your Deep Research prompt (scroll down and steal one from this page!).
- After you submit your prompt, ChatGPT will ask you clarifying questions. If you’re lazy or feel like the answers don’t matter much, tell it to ‘use its best judgment’.
That’s it. Within 5-30 minutes, you’ll have a full report with insights and sources pulled from across the web.
Bonus Tip: After your Deep Research query is done, switch back to GPT-4o (or whatever other low-quota model you want to use) and ask follow-up questions. It can use ALL of the information from Deep Research without burning through your query limits. Remember that you do NOT get an unlimited number of Deep Research questions.
Other Things You Need To Know About Deep Research
- Deep Research is available for paid ChatGPT users (for now).
- Query limits depend on your plan:
- ChatGPT Plus, Team, Enterprise, and Edu users: 10 queries per month.
- Pro users: 120 queries per month.
- When in doubt, check out the latest limits from OpenAI.
- You can attach files or spreadsheets to add context to your queries.
- Future updates will include embedded images, data visualizations, and other analytic outputs (so stay tuned).
- Deep Research is designed for professionals in finance, science, policy, law, engineering, academia, journalism, and business strategy. But if that’s not you, don’t cry. There are still plenty of use cases for people like you.
- It has lower hallucination rates than other AI tools—so while you still need to fact-check important information, it’s a lot more reliable.
- The model running Deep Research scored 26.6% accuracy on “Humanity’s Last Exam”—which is an extremely difficult AI test.
In short, this tool is not just cool—it’s a productivity weapon. And now, for the part you’ve been waiting for…
